2013/14 was a great year for the World Aid Group and the enthusiastic committee worked very hard to help raise money for many different charities. In the run up to the Christmas holidays we had some great bun sales and coffee mornings and everyone looked very festive in the ‘Wear a Christmas Item Day’ – there were some very colourful socks, hats and ties!
Our annual World Aid Week took place from 7-11th April 2014 and as usual one of the most competitive events was the Year 13 v Year 14 Bun Sale. This year the clear winner for raising the most money was Year 13! so over the last two years Year 13 have proved they have the business and marketing skills to encourage all the school to buy their buns!
We also held a teacher v pupil Quiz during lunch time with William and Susie proving to be great quiz masters. The pupils narrowly beat the teachers but most of all it was a great, fun way to spend a lunch time! Thanks to Mrs Doherty, Mrs Kane and Mr Nelson for taking part.
On Wednesday lunchtime there was a hockey match between the 1st XI Girls and 1st XV rugby boys. The boys were very confident and coming soon after their victory in the Subsidiary Shield, they felt that victory was sure. Unfortunately the boys were defeated 1-0 by the girls! Well done to the 1st X1 girls!
Thursday night was the highlight of the week with the annual Talent Show. The John Armstrong Hall was full of parents and fellow pupils to see all the talent that was on offer. Amongst the talent was some amazing singing by some Year 8 girls, piano playing, a great harmony form Year 10 girls and a interesting way to play fast and fun rap which a year 10 pupil had written himself.
2013/2014 has been another very successful year for the World Aid Group and the total raised since September stands at over £4000. This money will be split between many charities and will help continue the work of many charities. All pupils and staff should be proud of the effort and enthusiasm they put into all the activities which has enabled such a large total to be raised.
