In June 2014 Year 9 pupils visited Belfast Synagogue and Belfast Islamic Centre.
Pupils throughout N.I. are required to study two world religions as part of the Core Syllabus for R.E. at Key Stage 3. In Dalriada, our students gain an insight into Judaism in Year 9 and Islam in Year 10.
The study of world religions is designed to inform pupils of the beliefs of others and to encourage them to develop a knowledge of and sensitivity towards, the religious beliefs, practices and lifestyles of people from other religions. Our society is becoming increasingly multi-cultural and this enables young people to gain a knowledge and understanding of these religions before they progress to further education and/or the workplace, where they will most likely encounter a range of different beliefs.
As always, pupils thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity as well as a visit to McDonald’s.
