More success for Dalriada Robotics Club

fllOn Tuesday 2nd December, Dalriada Robotics Club travelled to W5 in Belfast for the First Lego League (FLL) annual robotics tournament.  Here they competed against other schools in the country in a range of contests covering a robotic challenge, a project presentation and core values.

It was an exciting day as many of our club’s members were new to the experience although they were ably supported by senior members who had been mentoring them over the weeks.

In the end, Dalriada Robotics club walked away with first prize for their project presentation. They had to present an innovative idea to a panel of judges from industry and academia. Special mention must go to our talented new recruits for their excellent presenting: Caolan McKendry, Alicia Cooke, Megan Schofield, Lauren Bell and Anna Graham.

After this success, however, there was still more to come.  Our senior members Claire Mulholland, Claire Crawford and David Linton showed their experience by placing the team joint first on the robot challenge.  At the end of the competition, it was a tie between Victoria College, Magherafelt High and Dalriada. Needless to say, all were very excited at the potential of automatic qualification to the UK finals in Loughborough. In the end, though, the judges had to take an average score which placed Dalriada as runners up.

A brilliant day was had by all and thanks goes to all our team members and also to NIE for sponsoring us through the years and covering our entry costs.
